Writtle Village

Writtle is one of the most attractive villages in Essex. Set around a quiet village green, there are specialist shops, traditional pubs and period houses which all contribute to its picturesque image.

Chelmsford

Just 3 km / 2 miles from the University College lies the city of Chelmsford and the county town of Essex. There has been a market town here since the 12th century, and the city has continued to grow in size resulting today in a population of over 155,000.

Just 40 minutes into London by train, Chelmsford is a busy commercial and shopping centre. All the major high street chains are present plus a variety of speciality shops. As well as a vast range of pubs, eating places and leisure facilities.

Other attractions include an ice skating rink and leisure centre, three museums, a multi-screen cinema and two theatres, not to mention the Cathedral, the home ground of Essex County Cricket Club, city centre parks and riverside walks. With the 500 acre Hylands Park and House just outside the city, there’s something for everyone!

Essex

The ancient county of Essex is a place of towns and villages, seaside resorts, sailing centres, river walks and commercial ports. The landscape has provided the inspiration for many famous artists, including the celebrated painters John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough and Francis Bacon. Rural Essex is a place of quiet country lanes, historic castles, period houses and ancient woodlands.

Throughout the year visitors can enjoy a range of interesting events or visit one of the permanent attractions. In particular between May and July the ‘Essex Festival of the Countryside’ brings together a whole host of events including steam train rallies, flower festivals, open air concerts and fetes.

The Campus

Writtle University College is 50 km / 30 miles north-east of central London. They are situated 3 km west of Chelmsford, the county town of Essex, in an attractive estate of approximately 150 hectares in the historic village of Writtle.
